The Tiber today

In recent years, the river has once again begun to receive the attention it deserves, thanks mainly to the commitment of Romans and associations.

From historic artistic and cultural initiatives, such as the summer festival 'Isola del Cinema', or the 'food and drink' stands of the Estate Romana (Roman Summer), to the commissioning of street art works, such as William Kentridge's ephemeral mural, and engaging events such as the annual Tiber Day.

The river is enjoyed every day by Romans and visitors, on foot or by bicycle, along the cycle path that runs alongside the Tiber and connects the Marconi area with Saxa Rubra and the RAI (Italian Television) studios.

Many are the clubs, besides the historical rowing clubs, offering sports facilities to anyone wanting to use them and take a regenerating break along the river or by the Aniene.

Or why not sail through history again? With an unprecedented view of the magnificent bridges, on board a boat that connects the city centre with the marvellous Ostia Antica excavations.

Leaving Rome, the Tiber leads to silent places, through nature reserves and oases, evocative landscapes dotted with villages almost suspended in time.

Amidst signs of the Etruscan civilisation scattered in the Veio Park, such as the village of Isola Farnese, immersed in the Roman countryside, are many small medieval towns: Formello, Fiano, Morlupo, Magliano, Capena, Sacrofano and Rignano, are intimate little places and treasure chests of history, knowledge and traditions

Amid art, culture, food and wine and outdoor activities, in and out of the city, the Tiber is the ideal travelling companion to discover the never-ending wonders of Lazio.
