PROJECT GOALS

TIBERLAND IS AMONG THE PROJECTS THAT HAVE OBTAINED FUNDING FROM THE LAZIO REGION, AS PART OF THE PUBLIC NOTICE 'IMPLEMENTATION OF MEASURES TO SUPPORT TOURIST DESTINATIONS IN LAZIO' APPROVED BY THE REGIONAL GOVERNMENT'S DECREE NO. 836 DATED 17 NOVEMBER 2020, AIMED AT THE CREATION OF DMO (DESTINATION MANAGEMENT ORGANISATIONS) WITH A SPECIFIC TERRITORIAL CONNOTATION.

The Tiber, one of the most important cultural and environmental basins in the world, has always been the beating heart of Rome and the vital artery of the Lazio region, composed of towns and villages, nature areas, environmental reserves and agricultural areas.

For too long now, the river seems to have been forgotten. Separated from the city by the high walls built in the late 19th century to protect the city from flooding, no longer used to transport goods between the various regions and only partly navigable, the Tiber resists and continues its course.

Its survival has a precious environmental and climatic function. It preserves the immense biodiversity still present in the area and has always characterised the landscapes of central Italy, with splendid views that today, as in the past, do not cease to transmit emotions.

The objective of the Tiberland project is to restore centrality and importance to the Tiber river through shared planning.

A programme of combined enhancement and promotion actions involving not only the Capital but also the area of the Metropolitan City, putting public institutions in touch with private concerns.

The project sees the administrations of Rome and the municipalities and the authorities in the area team up with cultural and sports associations, tourist and environmental guides.

Operators of open-air accommodation and mobility services are also part of the network, all united to make a big dream come true: the Tiber as an identity destination of millenary history and culture revived in a contemporary, active and green key.

With the commitment and professionalism of the many actors involved, a new integrated product has been built - cultural, tourist and naturalistic - which, through the river, unites towns, villages, paths and ancient roadways, monuments and nature reserves.

The network and programme are constantly growing, and there are many opportunities for residents and visitors.

The offer is characterised by true sustainability, both environmental and social: walks, guided tours, cycling or horse riding and many water and non-water sports activities.

Unique experiences, easy to book and share in groups, with friends or family.

And moreover, a rich and constantly updated calendar of events which throughout the year animate the localities of the 'Land of the Tiber' and enliven vital spaces in the capital.

From traditional festivals to fairs, including concerts, shows and music and art festivals, there is no shortage of opportunities for food and wine tastings and for play and recreational activities for children.
